"ESCUDOS HUMANOS" PERMANECEN EN EL ÁREA DE TIRO EN VIEQUES MIENTRAS
LA
MARINA CONTINÚA BOMBARDEANDO
Vieques, P.R.- A las 4:00PM de hoy martes 17 de octubre, la delegación
de
viequenses que penetró la zona de bombardeo de la Marina de Guerra
de los
Estados Unidos en la parte este de Vieques esta madrugada, permanecía
aún
en la zona de tiro sin ser capturados.
Ismael Guadalupe, uno de los portavoces del Comité Pro Rescate y Desarrollo de Vieques (CPRDV), informó que el grupo de "escudos humanos" viequenses, integrantes de la Brigada Luisa Guadalupe, han estado viendo y escuchando los intensos bombardeos de barco a tierra que la Marina de Guerra de los Estados Unidos ha estado lanzando al este de Vieques, cerca de donde se encuentran dispersos.
Guadalupe mencionó los nombres de algunos de los "escudos humanos" que permenecen en la zona de tiro: el Honorable Radamés Tirado, ex-Alcalde de Vieques (PNP); el Padre Justino López, Diácono de la Iglesia Católica en Vieques; Robert Rabin, portavoz del Comité Pro Rescate y Desarrollo de Vieques; Cedric Morales, comerciante y dueño del principal supermercado en Vieques; Angel "Tato" Guadalupe, veterano, maestro retirado y sobrino de Doña Luisa Guadalupe; y Güito Silva, viequense cuya esposa murió de cáncer, como tantos otros viequenses.
Guadalupe explicó que estos son algunos de los "escudos humanos" viequenses, ya que hay otros cuyos nombres y número no se revelarán aun por razones estratégicas.
Guadalupe dijo: "El bombardeo de la Marina en Vieques, en donde viven casi 10,000 personas cerca del área de tiro, es inmoral. Pero el que la Marina bombardee sabiendo que hay seres humanos allí mismo en el área de tiro es el colmo de la inmoralidad. Un grupo de viequenses están arriesgando sus vidas para defender las vidas y la salud de nuestro pueblo. La Marina de Guerra de los Estados Unidos demuestra nuevamente su carencia total de respeto hacia la vida, la salud y el bienestar de los viequenses."

"HUMAN SHIELDS" REMAIN IN BOMBING RANGE IN VIEQUES AS NAVY CONTINUES TO BOMB
Vieques, P.R.- At 4:00PM EST today, Tuesday October 17, the delegation of Viequenses who entered the bombing range in Vieques early this morning still remained there, even as the U.S. Navy continued to bomb from ship to shore.
Ismael Guadalupe, one of the spokespersons for the Committee for the Rescue and Development of Vieques (CRDV), explained that the group of Viequense 'human shields", members of the "Luisa Guadalupe Brigade", have been watching and hearing the intense ship-to-shore bombings by the U.S. Navy, close to where they are dispersed along the bombing range.
Guadalupe mentioned the names of some of the "human shields" who remain in the bombing range in Vieques: the Honorable Radamés Tirado, former Mayor of Vieques (member of the New Progressive Party); Father Justino López, Deacon of the Catholic Church in Vieques; Robert Rabin, spokesperson for the Committee for the Rescue and Development of Vieques; Cedric Morales, businessman and owner of the principal supermarket in Vieques; Angel "Tato" Guadalupe, veteran, retired teacher and nephew of Luisa Guadalupe; and Güito Silva, viequense whose wife, like so many other Viequenses, died of cancer.
Guadalupe explained that these are some of the "human shields" in the bombing range, since there are others whose names and number will not yet be revealed for strategic reasons.
Guadalupe stated: "Bombing Vieques, where there are almost 10,000 people living close to the bombing range, is immoral. But for the Navy to bomb knowing full well that there are human beings right there on the bombing range is unconscionable. A group of courageous Viequenses are risking their lives in order to defend our people's lives and health. The U.S. Navy is showing once again its total lack of respect towards the lives, health and well-being of the people of Vieques."
