Note to the reader: All these pictures were taken on December 29 and 30 of 1999. The civil disobedience camps were all dismantled by the Navy during the May 4, 2000 arrests. However, the civil disobedience campaign continues. Puerto Ricans and foreigners alike constantly enter the restricted área. In the end justice will prevail. ¡Paz para Vieques! (Peace for Vieques!)
Campsite of the "Congreso Nacional Hostosiano." Behind the second flag to the right there is a small chapel built by the protesters. A helicopter circles all the civil disobedience camps daily at very low altitudes. It takes pictures of everything happening there. Another picture of the same helicopter. What is left of a parachute in the middle of the road to "Monte David." It was used to throw a cluster bomb. This innocently looking little lake is really a bomb crater caused by explosions. This crater is about 15 feet (5 meters) away from the one in the preceding picture. Although the image is not very good some bomb fragments can be seen around the crater.
