The Target Warrior

By Sadie Judge

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagined it would take so long

Walking tall everyday
Keeping evil at bay
Trying to find the
Beauty of the day
Looking for the
Innocent at play

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagined it would take so long

But all around me
Everywhere I can see
Are those who tail
To keep me jailed,
Bound and impaled
Without bail, without fail

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagined it would take so long

Still I ask myself
Is this the life I
Was born to have?
Caught up in a snare
Of a modern day
Boogey-man's lair

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagined it would take so long

Where is the promise
My Mother gave me
As she bounced me
On her knee?
A world she said
Of light and hope,
A passion inside of
Me to keep afloat.

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagine it would take so long

Instead the darkness
Has clouded the sky
And captured the reign
And brought many of
Us daily unrelenting pain
Exploding into the light
With a great blow of might
Triumphantly filled with
Terror and fight

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagined it would take so long

But in the whisper of
The wind, it tells me to
Never bend, to hear the
Voice of my future,
To stand erect, straighten my back
And let go of any attack

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagined it would take so long

For I am a warrior
Of the highest kind
A true prince of peace
With an order from heaven
For hate to cease.
A decree that cannot
Be ignored
A decree that love
Be finally restored

I never knew I had it in me
I never knew I could be so strong
I never imagined it would take do long
